I’m a teacher who likes to help others understand why literature is not only an art but also a form of knowledge crucial for the modern world. My courses are serious but fun—and useful too. My students get a lot of feedback on their writing and ideas from me when they indicate that they want it, and the skills gained are practical for other courses and the other “real world.”
This year, 2017-18, I will be teaching a new introductory course on ways of reading, plus several of the courses mentioned below.
In 2016-17, I taught courses on film, modern and modernist Canadian literature, and a graduate seminar on contemporary theory and practice.
In 2015-16, I offered courses on mid-century Canadian fiction, the Western genre, and contemporary Canadian literature, plus a graduate seminar on public intellectuals in Canadian literary culture. Previously, I also taught courses in American literature, film, and poetics.
